Federico Erra found me first. But I was hooked deeper. Not only does his work consistently out do the ones before it, he is constantly creating a world within his own to present to the viewer. I wanted to share with you his beauty, as a photographer. I wanted to exemplify his vision, but had a tough time selecting which image best represented his works. I didn't want to show him or the woman he photographs frequently because of their stunning beauty can deter from his talent. But he has such a delicate and mysterious way of bring out the intrigue of this muse, that you will have to go to his link to see their ever playful roles run wild. Instead, however I selected one of his self portratis a bit reminscient of Jack Pedota, and his 80's work, along with another to represent his story telling type tales. Both are stunning but you really have to see for yourself what this young ambitious man is doing.

I'll be watching his work for years to come with great love and affection. He could bring a new element to the fashion industry's high fashion photography, given time.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/R8tdkyxfwGI/AAAAAAAAAUk/OIGfcfumoZc/s200/FedericoErra.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5173331483651194978" />

JENNIFER BELL

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/R7zgccdNXPI/AAAAAAAAATs/GjQcaHaXcCQ/s400/JB-Cafe.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5169253251594149106" />
JENNIFER BELL

I first fell in love with Jennifer Bell's work through a home magazine where she and her sister were featured living next door to each other in a very cool urban building in Vancouver BC. This world educated and travelled image maker has an impressive list of clients and experience, that seem apparent in her substantial body of work. The examples I have here are more fine art, but nonetheless show her capability to capture the crispness and visual geometric impact deemed essential to competing in architectural based photography. These are two images made during her commission to document the renovation of the Kingston station in Seattle. Check out her site for more impressive works. <img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/R5Px2HENPKI/AAAAAAAAAS0/N_K73jXUko0/s400/L.Swimmer.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5157731910181272738" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/R5PtknENPJI/AAAAAAAAASs/T4T3WYR1lak/s400/Clouds.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5157727211487050898" />
JPG Magazine is a fun little magazine and now an online extension for those who love to take pictures. They claim to be about making images, and the love of looking. It doesn't take much to get sucked into an hour of perusing the various people, themes and such. As in the case with internet surfing, you can easily ride along from one photographer to another. Most seem to be amatuers who simply love taking images, but in many cases, their capabilities could lead them into a profession should they ever intend. This image, called Clouds by Rita Iszlai, is a spectacular example of such beauty the young web contributors make on JPG.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/RzZgSj99JMI/AAAAAAAAARc/67wS9-CX26U/s400/KOD-Rocking+Teapot.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5131394697444271298" />

KEVIN O'DWYER
PRATT Fine Arts Center www.pratt.org

I came across Kevin's work in a catalog for Pratt's class schedule. It really captures that we as humans are such infintestimal, messy critters amassing in ant-like communities. (And we thought we were so special) Amazing online, and stunning in person. Several galleries represent this unique universal citizen, who was born in German, raised in the US, schooled in the US and Europe and recently living in China for 10 years. His site is real treat to check out, and don't miss his biography, a visual treat from the usual boring type up of the artists life milestones. If there is ever a photographer you could accuse of having a camera as an additional appendage, for this man shoots everything it seems, it would be Michael Wolf.
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/Rzz5f4l2QfI/AAAAAAAAASM/pt0g2JGxLrk/s400/M.Wolf.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5133252001457914354" />

SUSAN MADSEN
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/Rzcugj99JOI/AAAAAAAAARs/N3yFrt1RTAo/s400/SM-Furl_01.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5131621437357761762" />
I was perusing the PACINI LUBEL Gallery, currently my lastet fancy for gazing online at beautiful things, and Susan Madsen's work is one them. Her voluptious figures float in a visual study of skin in water and out, of form in play with like forms. It's a delicate series of gentle tones from the human palette, yet there is something undeniably solid and mysterious. The facial expressions that are visible are not necessarily serene and angelic but honest of any person. My personal interpretation conjures the idea that this is the visual representation of the human soul tumbling through life. I look forward to the day I can see the works in person, at a mid size, in oil, I'm sure these works are a visual delight in person.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/RzKj4j99JKI/AAAAAAAAARM/lrCZ74OS4BU/s400/CMTruthHitsEverybody.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5130343117651518626" />
CHRISTOPHER MIR

Chris Mir is at it again with a load of new paintings for his upcoming show called Dreams, Memories, Reflections at the Wadsworth Atheneum in Connecticut through January 6th, 2008.

When I first met Chris, about 10 years ago his work was post-holocauststic, loose and mysterious. He tapped into a direction that allowed him to venture into his own collaboration of nature's gentle beauty with flowers, butterflies and birds in contrast to the nightmarish unpredictablility of mankind. His recents works show a re-visitation of his darker, looser side. While Rebecca's work is similar in the study of the time and presence of her subjects, Demi's work is over sized and upclose. Demi's large canvas carries us into a that opportunity to look at the details of his subjects up close without being rude. How likely are we to step in to a person's space to check out the dirt under their finger nails or the creased wrinkles around their eyes.

Demi Raven writes "over time, I have marveled at the uniqueness of presence that each person I met carries - not only in the physical appearance but also in mannerisms, gestures etc. Even more so, there is something inextricably linked to individuals that is not merely outwardly poised. Call it personality if you will, but I feel it may have an even greater spiritual depth. I find it not only in those I love, but in the great majority of people I have met over time."
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/RzKbvT99JJI/AAAAAAAAARE/7sazpORflpY/s400/Demi+Raven.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5130334162644706450" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/RylazHiEFwI/AAAAAAAAAQs/3VZjJHtQXTI/s400/Picture+3.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5127729484979771138" />
REBECCA RAVEN

My heaven's did you think the man sucking up another's face would be there forever or WHAT? At last I have a moment to bring to the blog a few new artists. Lord, knows there are so many amazing and talented people out there it is a thrill to go in search. Plus the internet is a cornucopia of visual wealth. I can travel the world of artists and never tire. But for now I am bringing to the wide world web two local artists, who show opens tomorrow night at PACINI LUBEL Gallery on Second Ave. Rebecca Raven's work is of the genre I have been so drawn to lately, of photo realism from a different perspective or off kilter scenerio. In Rebecca's case she creates a bit of tension by illustrating her subject from above, at times from a dominant view. With some subjects there eyes are closed and you don't know if they are sleeping, or unconscious. In others the subject appears to be aware of the artist's invasion and yet other's are unaware and inward in thought as in the painting featured titled AWAY #2. I'm excited to see the squared up works of oil on aluminum. I hear they have an illuminating quality. Check it out, if you can.

<img style="float:right; The delightfully delicious image without a credit previously listed belongs to Julie Blackmon. Marisa Sanchez, Seattle Art Museum's new Asst Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art knew her work right away. She even informed me that the Gail Gibson Gallery in Seattle has just had a show with her. In the meantime I am enclosing her artist statement for I know I will be featuring her on the site in the future. I was thrilled to death to discover she is a woman of my age, facing the same type of balancing issues of family and self, and documenting her family in such a fun "Twilight" kinda way. Her color and b/w images greatly differ and I will feature a few of the black and whites a bit later, but for now read on.

Domestic Vacations (color work):
"The Dutch proverb “a Jan Steen household” originated in the 17th century and is used
today to refer to a home in disarray, full of rowdy children and boisterous family gatherings. The paintings of Steen, along with those of other Dutch and Flemish genre painters, helped inspire this body of work. I am the oldest of nine children and now the mother of three. As Steen’s personal narratives of family life depicted nearly 400 yrs. ago, the conflation of art and life is an area I have explored in photographing the everyday life of my family and the lives of my sisters and their families at home. These images are both fictional and auto-biographical, and reflect not only our lives today and as children growing up in a large family, but also move beyond the documentary to explore the fantastic elements of our everyday lives, both imagined and real.

The stress, the chaos, and the need to simultaneously escape and connect are issues that I investigate in this body of work. We live in a culture where we are both “child centered” and “self-obsessed.” The struggle between living in the moment versus escaping to another reality is intense since these two opposites strive to dominate. Caught in the swirl of soccer practices, play dates, work, and trying to find our way in our “make-over” culture, we must still create the space to find ourselves. The expectations of family life have never been more at odds with each other. These issues, as well as the relationship between the domestic landscape of the past and present, are issues I have explored in these photographs. I believe there are moments that can be found throughout any given day that bring sanctuary. It is in finding these moments amidst the stress of the everyday that my life as a mother parallels my work as an artist, and where the dynamics of family life throughout time seem remarkably unchanged. As an artist and as a mother, I believe life’s most poignant moments come from the ability to fuse fantasy and reality: to see the mythic amidst the chaos." Yet when I think of them I'm flabbergasted at how their work could ever slip my mind. Born in 1961, these boys started messing around making images as preteens. They are constantly evolving and pushing both the scientific investigations as well as the personal. In fact, just when I think they have officially left the art world for the science arena, they publish a coffee table book of superb images and poems. In the 80's while I was still a student these budding artists were trying out what is now primitive cut and paste multi image layering, now they are pushing the digital imaging realm and sitting on the razor's precipice of the cutting edge.

When an artist or in this case, artists begin pushing the limits, it's easy for the technique to become the art, rather than the image. In order to keep from that happening the image itself must be strong enough to withstand a transformation. In addition, uniquely the Starns have always seemed to consider the vehicle of alteration as an important element in accompanying the image. The process of investigation is as much the art as the end of result of images.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/Ros4v6KnNUI/AAAAAAAAANs/3ToGSEFfU4k/s200/Picture+10.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5083219000136512834" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/RnymaKtrpKI/AAAAAAAAAMs/FzWeINXOofE/s400/JAson+W.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5079117448249844898" />JASON WHEATLEY
"I am uninterested in painting things the way they are, I would rather gather the mundane bits of reality around me, dust them off and polish them until they shine fantastic."

This young artist leaves his mark in a uniquely emphatic way. I'm not intentionally bringing still lifes into the gallery blog but I've been studying still lifes for about a year now, as a topic both as a subject in art as well as in my own work, based primarily on the fact that I thought they were THE most BORING subject ever to look at as a kid. These days I seek out unconventional definition to this traditional genre. The titles are humorously given, while the Audubon-type painting of still life meets wildlife provides an opportunity to re-define exotic animals and mundane household objects.

To read more about Jason's artist journey thus far http://www.sma.nebo.edu/swap/animalswheatly.html

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/RnTP1atrpHI/AAAAAAAAAMU/TSONmdrRsQs/s400/1.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5076911196564333682" />
Help me! I know I found it through a New York based gallery.

I think the growing movement of photo manipulation brings forth a new genre of fine art photographic images.

I also find myself quite drawn to images of children, perhaps because like flowers and naked women, children can easily be represented in cliche poses, scenerios, etc and for those artists capable of pushing the realm of idea and evidence, the images can be striking, and possibly unforgettable.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/RnTSyatrpII/AAAAAAAAAMc/0tBwgUZ-hUo/s400/Picture+3.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5076914443559609474" /> The Lady's New Hat

MIA MAKILA
(WARNING-The works are a bit macabre and can be considered offensive.)

About Mia in her words...
I love the sound of thunder. I adore the Victorian era. I love a full moon. I hate to be broke all the time.

I was born in Norrköping, Sweden, in 1979. I'm an autodidact artist. I hate board games and sports.

I live in a haunted house. I love life more than I hate it. I have green eyes and red lips.

I listen to Eva Eastwood, american pop from the 50's and 60's, Vonda Shepard, Angelo Badalamenti, Sigur Ros, Cyndi Lauper, ABBA and Judy Garland.

I love my family. I treasure my parents. I have a fascination for human behavior. And human feelings. I'm a very sensitive person. I'm passionate, I love to smile and laugh and I love to dance really wild when I'm alone. When you can't see me. I love a lot of things as you see. But some of them, are my secret.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/RmT4WKtrpDI/AAAAAAAAAL0/QuWnoLoqcHg/s400/Picture+7.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5072452140042789938" />
Sally Mann

A well educated image maker whose most controversial work has been her children in the series Immediate Family, Sally Mann's career has spanned decades. Each series has appealed to my senses, whether they are maternal, sensual, or emotional, she manages to relate whatever is of importance to her in a profound series representing her life and values, and her personal investigation. Here, her three children pose in a defiant yet innocent clanish stance. They have always had a rather etheral appeal, with Virginia her youngest almost angelic and Emmet her son, like a soldier guarding the gates of heaven, perfect in his stoic repose.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/RmT3zKtrpBI/AAAAAAAAALk/THZ_NPcUIXY/s200/Picture+6.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5072451538747368466" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/RmJUpfeVsMI/AAAAAAAAALM/4pVeSc_7sww/s400/Picture+9.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5071709202172719298" />
EMMET GOWIN

Emmet Gowin is one of the most of amazing people I have ever met. Had I had the luxury of ever being his student, I imagine I would have failed his class simply by being so captivated. The son of a preacher, when he finally broke the news to his family that he was going to become a photographer, they signed with relief when his father told him, "Well at least you aren't going to be one of them artists".

Gowin is most well know for the intimate images of his wife Edith and his family over the years, although he has other important series which I will feature at a later date. Its a rare artist who can photograph his loved ones and bring forth their inner being and beauty through imagery. Like Sally Mann, another fellow Virginian who searches for the exquisite personal documentation of her loved ones, his ability to penetrate the personal barrier of his family and bring forth the tenderness of his shared relationship, is precious. <img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/RmJQC_eVsLI/AAAAAAAAALE/nuUcSVoHWPc/s200/Picture+6.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5071704142701244594" />

http://www.princeton.edu/~visarts/Emmethome.htm
http://www.yale.edu/opa/v29.n1/story17.html
http://yalepress.yale.edu/yupbooks/book.asp?isbn=9780300093612

Women in Art, The Eyes Have It

A splendid montage of images. However, in this entry it is not Madame X I will share with you but rather a loosely painted and expressive piece embracing the movement of the orchestra's music compliation; still as equally enticing as his portraits.

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/RjbCHoZ4D0I/AAAAAAAAAIs/xjWpmc3vvfU/s400/Picture+1.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5059444667758153538" />
EDWIN AUSTIN ABBEY

While working at Yale University Art Gallery, I had the privilege to digitally archive the largest collection of Abbey pastels bequeathed to the university's collection in 1937. These amazing illustrations were so delicate and fragile, they were only handled by one conservationist who was hired specially for the job.

Born on April 1, 1852 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the American artist was also an illustrator and painter. He flourished at the beginning of what is now referred to as the "golden age" of illustration, and is best known for his drawings and paintings of Shakespearean and Victorian subjects.

Moving to England in 1878, Abbey was made a full member of the Royal Academy in 1898. In 1907 he declined an offer of knighthood in order to retain his U.S. citizenship. Friendly with other expatriate American artists, he summered at Broadway, Worcestershire, England, where he painted and vacationed alongside John Singer Sargent at the home of Francis Davis Millet.

The sensation of the 1896 Royal Academy exhibition in London, this scene from Shakespeare’s Richard III shows the villainous, humpbacked Richard proposing to Lady Anne, Henry VI's widowed daughter-in-law, as she walks in the late king's funeral procession. Swathed in a sheer black veil and wearing a gown stiff with heraldic embroidery, she is accompanied by Richard's two young nephews and black-cloaked, halberd-bearing honor guards, their halberds reversed as a sign of mourning. Shortly before the moment depicted, Anne has heaped curses on Richard for having brutally stabbed to death both her father-in-law and her husband, Edward, Prince of Wales. Undaunted, the fawning Richard praises her extravagantly, asserting that he killed them in order to get near her, and offers to let her kill him, or to kill himself with the unsheathed sword that he holds up. But instead of plunging it into his breast, as she asks, he offers her a wedding ring. She will later succumb to his flattery and declarations of remorse, and accept his proposal. In doing so, she will bring on intrigues that ultimately result in her death.

Edwin Austin Abbey (American, 1852–1911)
Richard, Duke of Gloucester, and the Lady Anne, 1896
Oil on canvas, 52 5/8 x 104 3/8 in. Driving on road trips when everyone was asleep I would till my plots and orchestrate my images. While I stand under the pulsing shower spray I compose my song tracks to be tucked in the back sleeve of the book jacket on DVD. Ah, but alas, I have not manifested my illustrated illusions to a fabricated state and must rely on those that have taken the time to bring their own ideas to fruition.

Barbara Hodgson's The Sensualist was the first illustrated novel of hers I read. Having spotted and borrowed it from a dear book club friend, I had to buy my own copy when I returned it. It's a twisted story of old places and hidden secrets, where a woman scours for answers to an unraveling and disturbing mystery.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/Rg8UoZWrYEI/AAAAAAAAAF8/b9keimP4Vv0/s200/B.Hodgson.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5048276391538942018" />

<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/Rir5oQCpETI/AAAAAAAAAIc/LuKxsXxf1u8/s400/francescawoodman.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5056128001572933938" /><img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/Rir5ogCpEUI/AAAAAAAAAIk/rawOBJZgQKQ/s400/wood4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5056128005867901250" />
Francesca Woodman

I was in my mid 20's when I first saw Francesca Woodman's work illuminated through a slide projected in a class lecture. Her work appeared to be cathardic and investigative. She embraced her body as a fluid vehicle of self-exploration and determined expression; and an extention of her dreamy surroundings in some instances. Lyrical and unworldly, she tapped into a personal pursuit so many can relate to.

The daughter of two well known ceramicists, she lived in both Italy and Colorado during her youth, later going the expected east coast route, pursuing a degree at Rhode Island Institute of Art on to NYC. Francesca Woodman would have been 49 years old this month had she not committed suicide in 1981.

For more readings on Francesca
http://www.weeklywire.com/ww/08-31-98/boston_books_1.html
http://www.fly.net/~kiki/woodman.html

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/RiPwDZR1t-I/AAAAAAAAAIU/2qb00pnH1OY/s400/magic_skin_28x60_oil_2007.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5054147147955812322" />
C-MIR's latest

Perfect timing. Mir selects random images that appeal to him and juxtaposes them into a personal and unpredicatable story that the viewer is left to interrupt. With waif artist wife, Karen Dow and their two big-eyed gamine babies, Christopher Mir frequently features his loved ones in his visual stories. His paintings are done in both in acrylic and oils, but always feature a tension of transition. One can only imagine what they have stumbled onto.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/Rh8M9pR1tzI/AAAAAAAAAG8/4-rReeNupws/s320/Mir+portrait.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5052771560125216562" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/Rh8MC5R1txI/AAAAAAAAAGs/PJadbxIz7xA/s400/AIPAD.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5052770550807901970" />

AIPAD
Association of International Photography Art Dealers

THE PHOTOGRAPHY SHOW 07

If you LOVE looking at fine art photographs and can never seem to get enough, you'll die and think you have gone to heaven should you be able to attend the AIPAD event in New York City this week. Maggie Taylor attended Yale as an undergraduate, not in the art school but philosophy dept, going on to Florida University for her Masters in Photography. Another aspect worth noting is the progression of work over the years artists make. Looking at her previous works, one can easily surmise, it is truly practice, practice and practice that allows an artist to hone and investigate the means in which their work will evolve. Her photography over the years has moved beyond the camera and has become solely digital, based primarily on manipulated flat bed scans. How does one classify this type of work?

On a side note, Taylor is married to established photographic visionary and expert darkroom manipulator, Jerry Ulsemann. Imagine the after dinner chats these two share!

I find her fascination with fish humorous and her creative journey whimsical. The use of old photographs of people and the dream-like settings make me wonder if her images have meaning or are if they are merely objects juxtaposed on the same canvas? I was captivated, and have been ever since. What makes her even more inspiring is as a person behind the camera, she is as awesome as her images might reveal the image maker to be.

In her most recent project, The Image of MS, Joyce Tenneson visually takes on the disease multiple sclerosis (MS). "Having always believed that art should be used to change the world, Tenneson described the chance to work on this exhibit as a "gift from the gods." Recognizing that multiple sclerosis remains a mystery to the public at large, she took this opportunity to capture the real face of 27 people living with multiple sclerosis. Her photographs show each patient's unique story, while all are illuminated with a common spirit of strength, determination and hope."

Award-winner and educator, Tenneson speaks through the country, while her images span the globe in galleries, museums, books and magazines. The images featured are examples of her portraits and intimate series of flowers.
<img style="float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/RgQJWKpZVEI/AAAAAAAAAFI/CZAul3VGnec/s400/bio_joyce1.5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5045167758981551170" />

Inger Schoelkopf
Connecticut-based photographer, Inger Schoelkopf has a passion for image making that rivals few I know. The work itself is highly transmutable in its ability to adapt to its changing environment, denying a sense of completeness.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/Rf4HXizECfI/AAAAAAAAADg/KmrfStqAwoU/s400/Picture+2.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5043476733760899570" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/Rf4HfizECgI/AAAAAAAAADo/_HUdEpRucVA/s400/LoLUx.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5043476871199853058" />

Loretta Lux
Whether you like this German painter's cross between painting and photography albeit the world of Photoshop, chances are you will not forget her images. In her upcoming show Random Access Memory with printmaker Liz Pagano at ALL gallery in New Haven, CT, Tully pulls together geographical maps of New Orleans, old Polaroid images from the 1960s of her sister and herself, and in the above image "Purple Banana Seat Bicycle: 1968 " she is “using a picture that has, over time, become the
substitute for the actual memory of a Christmas morning.”
This concept of taking memories and creating electronic abstract ideas through a kind of random access much in the way computers retrieve information will continue to be a subject many artists I believe will explore.

Like so many works, nothing compares to seeing the works in person, and the upcoming RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY is no exception.

http://www.allgallery.org/press

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_oW3NT7-CoTc/ReoB-V9IGSI/AAAAAAAAAB8/FRKz0J9stEg/s400/Picture+3.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5037841303724366114" />
ARTS + LITERATURE GALLERY

This terrific little gallery is growing in leaps and bounds from its overwhelmingly varied artist submissions and inspriring exhibition themes. And what better photographer to begin with than Henri Cartier-Bresson, one of the most significant photographers in its history. Born in 1908, Cartier-Bresson transformed photography's capability to record, into an art form. Known for his decisive moments on film, Cartier-Bresson believed waiting and being quick were the keys to capturing the moment.

Honing in on shadows and settings, he would wait for the moment with his Leica on hand. Like so many passionate photographers who are driven to do more, Henri Cartier-Bresson embraced more than image making by founding Magnum Photos, a co-operative photojournalism agency based in New York and Paris.

Living a full and fruitful life, he passed away in 2004.
